Turkish Grand Prix fastest
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has set the fastest time in practice for the Turkish Grand Prix. Heavy rain made for difficult conditions during the ninety minute session.
World champion Sebastian Vettel escaped unhurt after a major accident at Turn Eight. His car was severely damaged and the session was red flagged and suspended for 10 minutes.
“I just hit the kerb, I am sorry there was nothing I could do,” Vettel told the Redbull mechanics over the team radio.
Alonso set a fastest time of one minute and 38.670 seconds on intermediate tyres early in the session.
Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher were second and third fastest ahead of Renault’s Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov.
This season’s main title contenders were not among the leading pack in a difficult and hazardous first session. 106 fm
